Thresher spikers get 20th win WINFIELD — The Bethel College volleyball team posted its 20th win of the season with a four-set win Saturday against Southwestern in KCAC play in Winfield. Bethel won 23-25, 27-25, 25-18, 25-22. Kylah Carter led the Thresher attack with 15 kills, followed by Mia Loganbill with 13 and Harlie Hunton with 12. Maddie Chupp served three aces, followed by Brooke Russell and Kaitlyn Shima with two each. Julie Wilhite downed six blocks, followed by Carter with five and Jordan Boone with four. Mia Roman set 33 assists, followed by Shima with 18. Roman had 21 digs, followed by Katey Wilhelm with 20 and Shima with 15. For Southwestern, Anna Bradley had 13 kills. Hannah Weber downed six blocks, followed by Brianna Ede and Jayda Brittenum with three each. Maela Stevens set 25 assists, followed by Sierra Norlin with 18. Sophia Wicker had 26 digs, followed by Hannah Weber with 14 and Norlin with 10. Southwestern is 9-13, 4-6 in KCAC play. Bethel is 20-8, 8-3 in KCAC play, and ends the regular season Saturday at Sterling. BC women win finale YORK, Neb. — The Bethel College women’s soccer team did what it needed to do Saturday to reach the post-season, but didn’t get the help it needed. Bethel downed York 1-0 Saturday in KCAC play, but a win for Avila, a win for Saint Mary and a tie for Tabor kept the Threshers in ninth in the conference — one point and one spot out of the top eight which play in the post-season tournament. Senior Abby Edson, a Newton High grad, scored the game winner in the 80th minute with an assist from Claire Hedlund. Bethel outshot York 13-12, 10-7 on goal. Vanessa Torres had seven saves in goal for the Threshers for the shutout win. Alexa Moreno had nine saves for York. Gabrielle Adams played the last 4:12 in goal for the Panthers. The game was played 10-on-10 for the last 50 minutes of play as each team had a player ejected. York ends the season 1-15-1, 1-11 in KCAC play. Bethel ends the season 7-9-2, 5-6-1 in KCAC play. The Threshers won three of their last four. Bethel men blanked in finale YORK, Neb. — The Bethel College men’s soccer team ended the season with a 3-0 loss to York Saturday in KCAC play in York. Bethel trailed 1-0 at the half. Johan Rodriguez scored for the Panthers in the sixth minute. Otavio Avila scored in the 54th minute with an assist from Rodriguez. Logan Brown scored in the 87th minute with an assist from Avila. Bethel was outshot 12-8, 8-3 on target. Cristofer Monje had two saves for the Panthers. Colton Rothwell had five saves for Bethel. Sean Holness played 14 minutes for the Threshers, allowing a goal. York improves to 6-5-7, 4-6-2 in KCAC play, to get the sixth seed in the KCAC post-season tournament. Bethel ends the season 6-102, 3-7-2 in KCAC play, finishing tied for 10th. Bethel finished three points out of the top eight.
