Former Kansas resident Ronald Duane Conner died on January 28th, 2023 from several complications due to old age, in San Diego, CA, his heart home of 33 years and in honor of his final wishes. Ron was born in Newton, KS on February 21st, 1933 to Bradshaw and Clara Selma Conner. He graduated from Newton High School, Class of 1951. He went on to Wichita State University, getting his degree in History and his Teaching Certificate in 1962.
His chosen career path was sales, working for Skyline Mobile Homes and Laverne Truck Equipment, he retired from Red Wing Shoe Store in El Cajon CA. In 1951 he was drafted into the Army, serving as a combat trainer for the 61st Infantry, Fort Carson, Colorado until 1953. He received a Good Conduct metal and a National Defense Service metal. In 1954 he married Joan Marie Casner. They had two sons: Brad and Shawn. He met and married Phyllis McKinney Horinek in 1966. They had one daughter Kerry. Ronald was a naturalist and progressive for his time. He enjoyed hiking in the beauty of Colorado, California and Kansas. He protested against nuclear power plants, he was an advocate of human rights and a long time member of the Sierra Club. He championed all things organic. He loved music, singing, dancing and all forms of theater.
Karaoke was a favorite past time. He is survived by his Sister Ione Toevs of Newton KS, Bradshaw and June Conner Of Aurora, Co, Shawn and Debbie Conner of Tuscon, AZ and Kerry and John Schnackenberg of San Diego, CA and Arkansas City, KS, respectively, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grand children, multiple nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Father, Mother and son Aaron Conner. There will be three celebrations of life in: Newton, KS, Aspen, CO and San Diego, CA.
