Parents dropping off students at school in Newton on Sept. 18 may have noticed extra police officers at school buildings – rather than the normal group of school resource officers additional officers were on site.
They were responding to an alleged Instagram post threatening an attack on a Newton school building. Upon learning of the post, USD 373 immediately contacted law enforcement.
According to an email sent to parents at 8:37 a.m. Sept. 18, the district is unsure of the origin of the Instagram post.
The email also read: “While this threat seems to be unsubstantiated at this time, we are continuing to monitor the situation with our law enforcement partners. USD 373 encourages all in our school community that if you see something that threatens anyone’s safety, please say something. Thank you for your cooperation at this time.”
