The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 6 of the fall sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:
Boys
Jerick Humphreys, junior, Hesston High School, football. Humphreys hit 15 of 21 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown and rushed for a touchdown in a 66-34 Swather win over Wichita Trinity Academy.
Victor Galvan, junior, Newton High School, soccer. Scored two goals with an assist in an 8-0 Railer win over Salina Central.
Paul Grill, senior, Moundridge High School, football. Rushed for 212 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown in a 28-12 win over Marion. Also had eight tackles, two tackles for a loss and a sack.
Girls
Bailey Bernal, junior, Halstead High School, volleyball. Passed the 1,000 career kill mark as Halstead won the Hillsboro Invitational.
Reese Quinn, junior, Hesston High School, cross country. Won the Goessel Invitational with a personal best time of 19:30.98.
Maisie Brubacher, senior, Newton High School, tennis. Placed fifth in the Class 5A regional tournament in doubles with partner Natsuki Sawaguchi to qualify for state. The two also finished fifth earlier in the week at the AV-CTL II championships.
Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Kansan.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
