The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 3 of the spring sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:
Boys
C.J. Buffalo, senior, Newton High School, track. Won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and took second in the 110-meter high hurdles at the Valley Center Invitational.
Heath Churchill, junior, Moundridge High School, senior, track. Won the 110-meter high hurdles and the high jump, took second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles at the Valley Center Invitational.
Eli Roth, junior, Hesston High School, golf. Won top medalist honors at the Hillsboro Invitational. Placed 12th at the Salina Sacred Heart Invitational.
Girls
Delaney Duerksen, freshman, Goessel High School, track. Won the 100-meter high hurdles and 300-meter low hurdles at the Solomon Central Kansas Track League meet. Took second in the triple jump. Was a member of the winning 4×400-meter relay team.
Hattie Hecox, sophomore, Moundridge High School, track. Won the javelin and took second in the triple jump at the Moundridge CKTL meet. Won the javelin at the Valley Center Invitational.
Angela Ewert, junior, Hesston High School, swimming. Won the 100-yard breaststroke and took second at the 200-yard individual medley at the Salina Invitational. Anchored winning 200-yard freestyle relay team and was a member of the fourth-place 200-yard medley relay team.
Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the April 27 Kansan print edition.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
