The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 11 of the winter sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:

Boys

Abram Wall, Newton High School, swimming. Claimed four medals at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division II championships, anchoring the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team.

Clayton Considine, Halstead High School, wrestling. Won the Central Kansas League title at 132 pounds with a 4-0 record, winning three matches by pin.

Bear Moddelmog, Moundridge High School, basketball. Scored 56 points in three games for the Wildcats, leading the team to a 3-0 finish.

Girls

Brookelyn Treaster, Newton High School, wrestling. Won the Class 5A West Regional title at 105 pounds with with four pins.

Sheyenne Pinkston, Remington High School, wrestling. Placed second at the Class 3-2-1A East Regional at 125 pounds, winning four of her five matches by fall.

Piper Schroeder, Halstead High School, basketball. Scored 26 points in two wins for the Dragons.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the March 1 Kansan.

Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.

Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing cschnabel@cherryroad.com. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
