Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens

The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 10of the winter sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:

Boys

Camden Schmidt, senior, Newton High School, basketball. Scored 37 points in two games as Newton finished the week 1-1.

Wade Stubbs, freshman, Newton High School, wrestling. Finished third at 113 pounds at the Rose Hill Invitational at 4-1.

Mario Murillo, sophomore, Hesston High School, bowling. Placed 14th at the Buhler Invitational at 573, placed second at Newton dual meet with Goddards at 698.

Girls

Adriana Jaso, Newton High School, bowling. Took second at Goddard dual meet at 431, took 25th at Crusader Classic at 392.

Kahlyn Davis, senior, Halstead High School, wrestling. Placed second at 130 pounds in the Central Kansas League championships at 4-1.

Abbigail Funk, senior, Goessel High School, basketball. Scored 25 points in two games, both Goessel wins.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Feb. 22 Kansan.

Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.

Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing cschnabel@cherryroad.com. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
