The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 9 of the winter sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:
Boys
Tanner McAllister, sophomore, Hesston High School, bowling. Rolled a 658 series in a dual meet against Andover Central and placed ninth at the Great Plains Invitational at 709.
Noah Vela, junior, Newton High School, wrestling. Placed eighth at the Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City with a 3-3 record.
Bear Moddelmog, senior, Moundridge High School, basketball. Scored 24 points in 49-41 win over Garden Plain.
Girls
Karla Lopez-Correa, senior, Newton High School, bowling. Led Newton with a 425 series in a dual meet win over Andover Central.
Camila Martinez, senior, Remington High School, wrestling. Won the 110-pound title of the Remington Invitational at 3-0, winning two matches by fall and one by technical fall.
Piper Schroeder, sophomore, Halsted High School, basketball. Scored 23 points in three wins for the Dragons at the Haven Invitational.
Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Feb. 15 Kansan.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
