The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 6 of the winter sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:

Boys

Kohen Corona, senior, Halstead High School, basketball. Scored 13 points in a 68-34 loss to Wichita Trinity Academy.

Bear Moddelmog, senior, Moundridge High School, basketball. Scored 29 points in a 58-47 win over second-ranked Sterling.

Major Giles, junior, Newton High School, wrestling. Placed fourth at the Dodge City Invitational with a 6-3 record.

Girls

Bailey Bernal, sophomore, Halstead High School, basketball. Scored 13 points in a 51-39 win over Wichita Trinity Academy.

Cammi Unruh, junior, Moundridge High School, basketball. Scored 19 points with seven steals in a 72-37 win over Sterling.

Ryah Bristol, freshman, Newton High School, wrestling. Won the Dodge City Invitational title at 140 pounts with a 5-0 record. Four wins were by pin.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Jan. 25 Kansan.

Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
