Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week voting opens

The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 4 of the winter sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:

Boys

Jameson Miles, sophomore, Peabody-Burns High School, basketball. Averaging 18 points, 8.3 rebounds a game for the Warriors.

Camden Schmidt, senior, Newton High School, basketball. Scored 28 points in the last two games for Newton, finishing 1-1.

Exavier Torres, freshman, Newton High School, wrestling. Finished 4-4 at 120 pounds at the Kansas City Stampede wrestling tournament.

Girls

Jenna James, junior, Newton High School, wrestling. James finished fourth at 130 pounds at the Basehor-Linwood Ladycat Classic.

Kahlyn Davis, senior, Halstead High School, wrestling. Won the Hesston Invitational, placed third at the Douglass Goodwill Invitational and won a dual meet match against Valley Center.

Tatum Suderman, senior, Newton High School, basketball. Scored 19 points in the last two games for the Railers.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Jan. 11 Kansan.

Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.

Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing cschnabel@cherryroad.com. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
