The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week has opened.

Jeremiah Briscoe, Berean Academy, senior, cross country, third at Swather Special senior boys’ race (top area time of 17:11.2), won junior-senior boys’ race at Clearwater Invitational.
Girls
Ashley Lehman, junior, Hesston, cross country, second junior girls’ race Swather Special, third in junior-senior girls’ race Smoky Valley Invitational.
Naomi Koontz, sophomore, Newton, golf, won Salina Central Invitational at 65, won Derby Invitational at 31 (9 holes).
Bailey Bernal, sophomore, Halstead, volleyball, 89 kills, 9 aces, 7 blocks, 39 digs, 3 assists in 10 matches.
Voting is open until midnight Friday and winners will be announced in the Sept. 24 Kansan.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites. Coaches and administrators may suggest nominees by e-mailing cschnabel@cherryroad.com. Please include the athlete’s statistics for the week and a photo. Three boys and three girls will be selected as nominees each week.
