Janet Mae Myers, Wichita, passed away peacefully with family by her side Feb. 6, 2022, at the age of 94. She was born on the family farm in Brown County near Horton, KS on March 8, 1927, the third child of Herbert and Winifred Kipp Campbell.
After he returned from serving in the Navy during World War II, Janet married Richard Dale Myers on May 4, 1947. Together they raised four children, with their family eventually growing to include five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Janet was a high school coach’s wife during most of the 30 years she and Richard were married. She held several jobs through the years and worked in the Business Department of Wichita USD 259 for 17 years before retiring in 1990.
A poet at heart, Janet loved to surprise relatives and friends with personal poems to commemorate special events. She also sang in various choirs throughout her life and played bridge at every opportunity.
Preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Richard; her sister, Shirley; and brothers, Dale and Keith. Janet is survived by her brother, Don (LaVerne) Campbell; children, Robert (Lana) Myers of Newton, Jill (David) Stearns of Bonsall, CA, Jay (Debra) Myers of Lindsborg, and Dr. Carol Myers of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Myers, Alex (Joanna) Nordine, Carly (Kyle) Hazelwood, Curtis (Megan) Myers, and Tyler (Tori) Stearns; great-grandchildren, Logan, Brody, and Collin Myers, Mae and Hazel Nordine, and Hunter and Mason Stearns.
Private family burial was at Horton City Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 11. A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that Janet’s generous spirit be honored by donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the American Heart Association, or another worthy cause of personal choice.
