3 p.m. — Treble Clef Vespers, First Presbyterian Church in Newton, 900 Columbus Ave. Treble Clef Chorus, Prairie Bronze Handbell Ensemble, The Schrag Siblings, Connie Rickard on saxophone. No admission fee.

6 p.m. and 7:15 — Prairie Bronze Handbell Ensemble, Dyck Arboretum, Hesston

Dec. 2

6 to 9 p.m. — Christmas Light Tours by Newton Recreation Commission, 415 N. Poplar St. Join the NRC Express for a special Christmas Light Tour. The bus will be decked out in Christmas lights and the music will be festive. The tour will visit several places in Wichita including Reindeer Road, Candy Cane Lane, The Arc’s Lights, Lights on Texas, Faulkner Street and more. Fee: 4 yrs and Under free; 5 yrs and Up: $12 per person; Family of 4: $35 (each additional person $6). All Ages; all youth must be with an adult.

Participants MUST pre-register. Tour is approximately 3 hours, including drive time. If a restroom break is needed this may add 30 minutes to our tour. There are NO restrooms on the bus. Registration Deadline: Mondays, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2.

Dec. 5

6:30 p.m. — Parade of Lights, downtown Newton. Christmas parade hosted by Newton Lions Club featuring dozens of lighted floats, vehicles and groups. The evening will also include hot chocolate, cookies, and photos with Santa after the parade. Come early or stay late to shop downtown.

5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Santa at the Y, Newton YMCA, 701 Wheatridge Dr. Free.

Dec. 7

7 to 8 a.m. — First Saturday Bird Walk, Kauffman Museum, 27th and North Main. Depart from the kiosk in the museum parking lot for a mile-and-a-half hike through Chisholm Park and along Sand Creek Trail. Be prepared for some unpaved/steep terrain and early fall weather. Binoculars and a bird book are recommended but not required. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome but should be able to remain quiet so they don’t scare away the birds.

Dec. 9

7:30 to 8:30 p.m. — NHS Jazz Band and Railaires Concert, Newton High School, 900 W 12th St, Newton.

Dec. 10

7 p.m. — Strange new worlds book club, Newton Public Library, 223 E. 7th St. The Strange New Worlds Book Club reads a variety of science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction books.
