Election day arrives

At the end of Saturday early voting 622 voters had cast a ballot in the 2025 city/school elections.

And that may not sound like much in a county with 22,964 registered voters, but it is a strong turnout for early voting in city/school elections.

“We are ahead … for the whole time period we are up almost 100,” said Rick Piepho, county clerk and election official. “City/schools are pretty consistent.”

The 2025 city/school elections have arrived, polls in Harvey County will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 4.

“I think turnout will be fairly close to what we have been,” Piepho said. “Two years ago we were at almost 23 and a half percent, four years ago we were at 21 percent. If we hit 25 percent we will be doing pretty good.”

No . 4 is the final day to cast a ballot — even mail ballots must be postmarked prior to Nov. 4 for them to count. Those mail ballots, of which 1,257 were sent to those who requested them, must be received by Friday to be counted.

Depending on where a voter lives in Harvey County, they will see candidates for city council or city commission on the ballot, as well as board of education candidates for the district in which they live.

The following candidates are on ballots throughout Harvey County.

Ballots will be counted in the courthouse community room, 800 N. Main, after the polls close.

“Election night will be preliminary results, they are preliminary results until after the canvass,” Piepho said.

Election results will be canvassed (certified) by the county commission Nov. 12.
