The now annual Dia De Los Muertos Newton celebration is coming up Nov. 2 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 415 S. Ash.
The day includes food, arts, crafts, dance troupes, activities and games.
There were a couple of ofrendas in the building, with photos of loved ones. An ofrenda is an altar, built to honor lost loved ones. Offerings are placed upon the ofrenda, to the living remember, learn about, and celebrate their lives.
The holiday is traditionally celebrated November 1 and 2, though other days, like October 31 or November 6, may be included.
The Day of the Dead (Spanish: el Día de Muertos or el Día de los Muertos) holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and to remember friends and family members who have died.
The tradition developed in Mexico.
