HESSTON — The Hesston High School girls’ basketball team will have a distinctive sophomore and junior look to it, although there’s a lot of talent in those classes.Matt Richardson begins his 18th season as the Hesston head coach.
ELBING — The Berean Academy girls’ basketball team will look to two returning starters and four other returning players to carry the load for the defending Class 2A state champions.Kristin Wiebe returns for her 19th season at Berean, where she is 342-85.Berean was 25-1 last season, 9-0 in HOAL play.
SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinals will be looking like a much more experienced team this season, returning four of five starters.Darren Crumrine returns for his 30th season.Sedgwick went 5-16 last season, 2-7 in the Heart of America League.
BRAINERD — The Remington High School boys’ basketball team won’t have a lot of experience to rely on when the 2023-24 season rolls around.Second-year coach Clint Kinnamon will have just two players back with starting experience.
SEDGWICK — With four starters back, the Sedgwick High School girls’ basketball team will be set for improvement.Aaron Stucky returns as the Cardinals’ coach, assisted by Karah Covey.Sedgwick was 10-11 last season, 4-5 in HOAL play.
ELBING — The Berean Academy boys’ basketball team will look for improvement in both execution on the court and in the win/loss column for the 2023-24 season.Lewis Wiebe begins his 30th season with the Warriors.
HESSTON — The Hesston High School boys’ basketball team will have to overcome the loss of seven seniors in its quest for a fourth-straight Class 3A state title.Garrett Roth begins his second season as the Swathers’ coach.Hesston was 25-1 last season, winning the Central Kansas League title at 9-0.Hesston topped Marysville 50-44 in the state finals.Two starters return from last season — seniors Jackson Fry (6-2, 4.7 ppg, 2 spg) and Adrian Hernandez (6-3, 6.8 ppg, 3 rpg, 1.6 spg).
