KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Newton High School boys’ wrestling team went against the best in the region and some of the best in the nation, claiming four medals and a 13th-place team finish out of 54 scoring teams Friday and Saturday at the Kansas City Stampede.
Prep girls GOESSEL — Cheyenne Sawyer scored 21 points to lift the Goessel Bluebird girls to a 47-22 win over Udall Friday in non-league play. Goessel broke the game open with a 15-1 second quarter to lead 22-5 at the half.
SALINA — It almost took longer to make the trip from Newton to Salina than for the Newton High School wrestling team to win a 71-9 dual meet over Salina South Thursday in AV-CTL I action. Newton improves to 3-0 in league duals.

ANDOVER — The Newton High School boys’ swimming team claimed two more state qualifying entries while placing seventh at the Andover Invitational. Andover Central won the meet at 368, followed by Wichita Collegiate at 271 and Andover at 243.
Prep Girls Little Rv. 45, Moundridge 31 MOUNDRIDGE — The Little River girls’ basketball team used a 12-5 third quarter to break open a three-point game and claim a 45-31 win over Moundridge Tuesday in Moundridge.
