NICKERSON – The Hesston Swather boys’ basketball team handled pressure for the second-straight night, stopping top-ranked (KBCA), top-seeded and previously unbeaten Cheney 49-41 Saturday in the Class 3A sub-state finals in Nickerson. Hesston, 22-1, advances to the
BRAINERD – The Moundridge Wildcat boys ended the season with a 43-40 loss to rival Inman Friday in the Class 2A sub-state at Remington High School. Tied 9-9 after the first quarter, Moundridge took a 23-22 lead at the half.
TULSA, Okla. – Newton High School grad Wyatt Hendrickson won the title at 285 pounds at the Big 12 Wrestling Championships Saturday and Sunday at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Bethel College softball team finished 0-3 along with an exhibition loss to an NCAA Division I school Friday and Saturday at the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City.
WHITEWATER – The Remington-Berean Academy sub-state final Saturday evening started much like the teams’ regular-season matchup. And, when it was over, the outcome was the same as that Feb.
NICKERSON – After giving up a 21-10 third quarter, the Hesston High School girls’ basketball team made a furious run to start the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, that comeback ran out of steam and the top-seeded Nickerson Panthers made a 9-0 run to claim a 48-37 win Saturday in the finals of the Class 3A sub-state tournament in Nickerson.
SALINA – A week ago, the Newton High School girls’ basketball team lost to top-ranked (Class 5A) Salina Central 62-16, so there was some improvement Wednesday as the Railers fell to the Mustangs 60-23 in the semifinals of the Class 5A West Sub- State I tournament in Salina.
The Bethel College men’s basketball team will return to the scene of its biggest triumphs Friday and March 12 for the first two rounds of the NAIA Championships. The Threshers will face Briar Cliff at 8 p.m.
