All-Texas final in Mex-Am tourney
It was an all-Texas affair in the finals of the 74th Newton Mexican-American Men’s Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament Saturday and Sunday. It also was a long tournament because of storms Friday and Saturday that led to a late start and games that ended at 4:30 a.m.

NBA NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Zion Williamson agreed Saturday to a five-year, $193 million extension with the New Orleans Pelicans that has the potential to be worth as much as $231 million, two people familiar with the situation said. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because NBA rules do not allow the extension to become official until July 6.
Sluggin’ Rebels fall to Cheney
The Newton Sluggin’ Rebels fell to the Cheney Diamond Dawgs 13-8 Sunday in a non-league game at Klein-Scott Field. Newton picked up the non-league game after a weekend series against the 316 Elite was rained out and will need to be rescheduled.
