The Newton Baseball Club sponsored the 29-team Roger Gillispie Invitational Friday through Sunday at five different fields in the area. Bracket game results were not posted at deadline, but in the 14U division, the Newton D.Weeks team finished 2-0 in pool play, beating Newton Horton 6-3 and the Wichita Hornets 7-1.
WICHITA — The Wichita Wind Surge fell behind by five runs in the first four innings of play, falling to the Amarillo Sod Poodles 6-3 Thursday night in Texas League play at Riverfront Stadium. Amarillo’s Brent Telller pitched 5.1 innings for the win, striking out four.
WICHITA — An Andrew Bechtold home run in the bottom of the eighth inning appeared to give the Wichita Wind Surge the advantage it needed, but a two-run Leandro Cedeno double with two outs in the ninth inning lifted the Amarillo Sod Poodles to a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon in Texas League play at Riverfront Stadium.
