Sluggin’ Rebels fall behind early in loss
HAYSVILLE — The Newton Sluggin’ Rebels have come a long way since last year, but still have a ways to go, falling to the Haysville Aviators 14-6 Monday night in the consolation finals of the Sunflower Collegiate League post-season tournament at Vulcan Field in Haysville.

Treaster falls at worlds ROME — Newton High School wrestler Nick Treaster fell in first-round action of the U17 Greco-Roman World Championships Monday in Rome. Wrestling at 55 kilograms (121.25 pounds), Treaster fell to Halil Cinar of Turkey 7-0 in the round of 16.
Chiefs report to camp without longtime club cornerstones

DERBY — Bailyn Sorensen kept the post-season hopes alive for the Newton Sluggin’ Rebels with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 4-3 win over the Derby Twins in the consolation semifinals of the Sunflower Collegiate League tournament at Panther Field in Derby.
