Railers fall short of Hutch on gridiron

Newton checked off almost all the boxes of a “how to beat Hutchinson” checklist on Sept. 9 at Fischer Field. But they missed one critical box, falling to the Salthawks 32-27 in a thriller. “Our kids played well,” said coach Greg Slade. “... I am proud of the kids. We played hard. I love that to death. ... Railers second at Titan WICHITA — The Newton High School boys’ soccer game fell to Dodge City in penalty kicks Saturday in the finale of the Titan Classic at Carpenter Stadium in Wichita. Dodge City scored in the 15th minute.

Bethel rallies to beat Friends

WICHITA — The Bethel College football team, for the second straight week, waited for the second half to get things going, stopping Friends University 28-16 Saturday at Adair-Austin Stadium in Wichita. The Threshers trailed 10-0 after the first quarter, but scored three unanswered touchdowns to claim the win.
