Railers split AV-CTL I home tri
The Newton High School volleyball team struggled a bit last week with a 2-6 finish, but came back this week with a 6-2 mark capped by a split of an Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I triangular Tuesday at Ravenscroft Gym. Newton topped Derby 25-17, 25-23; but lost to ninthranked (KVA, Class 6A, made before Hutchinson’s reclassification to 5A was announced) Hutchinson 25-18, 25-15.

Railer golfers fifth at Buhler HESSTON — The Newton High School girls’ golf team placed fifth Friday at the 14-team Buhler Invitational at the Hesston Golf Course. Hays won the team title at 326, three strokes ahead of Maize.
Chisholm Harriers start busy week
The Chisholm Middle School Cross Country team kicked off a busy week with a trip to Salina on Sept. 27.
Bethel netters claim medals
WINFIELD — The Bethel College women’s tennis team won six medals, including four titles, at the KCAC Fall Individual Championships Friday and Saturday at Winfield. In women’s play, Daniela Herrera won the second singles flight.

Railer spikers take third at home meet
The Kansan Staff After a 2-6 run of matches in the previous seven days, the Newton High School volleyball team came back for a thirdplace finish Saturday at the Newton Invitational. In the first round of pool play, Newton topped Salina South 25-18, 25-19; and Andover Central 25-23, 22-25, 25-20.
