It was a matter of better execution, as well as adjustments, to lead the Newton High School football team to a 26-13 win over Arkansas City Friday on homecoming at Fischer Field. Newton trailed 7-0 at the half and had just 89 yards total offense, but got the running game going in the second half to rack up 295, 264 on the ground.
Across the ideological spectrum, there were predictions of dramatic consequences when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a public high school football coach’s right to pray on the field after games.

The Newton High School cross country team hosted its annual home meet Saturday morning at Centennial Park with some changes. The meet was renamed the Capps-Malin Invitational in honor of former longtime Railer cross country coaches Ralph Malin and Ron Capps.
Non League Osage City 52, Sedgwick 28 OSAGE CITY — Landon Boss rushed for 174 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 264 yards and a touchdown to down Sedgwick 52-28 Friday in nonleague, non-district play at Osage City. Osage City led 31-6 after the first quarter and 38-13 at the half.
