DERBY — The Newton High School football team had Class 6A powerhouse Derby staggered in the first half, but the Panthers got off the canvas in the second half to score five unanswered touchdowns and claim a 49-20 win Friday night in AV-CTL I play in Derby. Dylan Edwards carried the ball 19 times for 295 yards and five touchdowns.

HUTCHINSON — The Newton High School boys’ soccer team ended the season with one of its best regular seasons in school history after a 3-0 win against the Hutchinson Salthawks Thursday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. Newton ends the season 14-2, 5-1 in AV-CTL I play, taking second in the league and clinching a top-four seed in the regionals, allowing the Railers to host a regional.
