Area cross country roundup

Railers send two runners to state GREAT BEND — Two members of the Newton High School cross country team — senior Simon Secor and sophomore Lucas Kaufman — qualified for state during the Class 5A regional meet Saturday at the Lake Barton Cross Country Course. The top three teams, medalists and the top five runners not on the top three teams advance to the state meet Saturday at Rim Rock Farm outside of Lawrence.

Thresher spikers edged by OWU

The Kansan staff BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — The Bethel College volleyball team is still in the hunt for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title, but will need to win out and get a lot of help after a five-set loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan Tuesday in Bartlesville.

Two Railer gymnasts compete at state

The Kansan Staff OLATHE – The Newton High School gymnastics team ended the season with two competitors at the 50th KSHSAA State Championships Saturday at Olathe South. Senior Elisa Fernandez finished her prep career placing 37th on the vault at 8.45, 22nd on the uneven parallel bars at 7.5, 17th on the balance beam at 8.425 and 33rd on the floor exercises at 8.125.
