Overtime in the post-season is always the time for unlikely heroes to shine. That was the case for the Newton High School boys’ soccer team as Ricardo Valdivia Rodriguez punched through a corner kick from Enrique Mercado Arellano in the 87th minute to hand the Railers a 3-2 win over league rival Maize Thursday in the finals of the Class 5A West Regional III Tournament at Fischer Field.
Newton Kansan The Bethel College men’s soccer team had plenty of chances to put away Saint Mary Wednesday night in KCAC play, but the Spires were able to convert in the final 28 minutes to claim a 4-0 win. Romario Harding scored two goals with an assist for USM.
The Bethel College women’s soccer team played like it wanted in the post season, stopping Saint Mary 6-1 Wednesday in KCAC play at Thresher Stadium. C laire Hedlund scored two goals with three assists to pace Bethel.
