Newton winter sports teams open practice
Monday marked the opening of winter sports practices for all high schools in Kansas governed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Newton has five sports that opened the season Monday – boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ wrestling and boys’ swimming.
Youthful Halstead boys gain experience
HALSTEAD — Last season was a trial by fire for a youthful Halstead Dragon basketball squad under then-first-year head coach Chris Santoya. With a little more experience this season, the Dragons will look to improve and move up the Central Kansas League ladder.
Railer boys’ wrestlers look to make more history
History could be in the making for the Newton High School boys’ wrestling team in 2022-23. Newton senior Nick Treaster will be seeking to become among the first Railer wrestlers to claim four state titles.
Railer girls’ wrestling seeking more medals
As girls’ wrestling expands in Kansas, Newton coach Tommy Edgmon is looking at that expansion for the Railers in the upcoming season. Edgmon begins his ninth season as the Railers’ coach.
