PREP GIRLS Goessel Bluebird Classic Little River 75, Burrton 26 GOESSEL — The Burrton Charger girls opened play in the Goessel Bluebird Classic with a 75-26 loss to top-ranked (Class 1A, Division I, KBCA) Little River Monday in Goessel. Little River led 26-5 after the first quarter and 47-11 at the half.

The Bethel College women’s basketball team was dominant in the first five or six minutes of the first and fourth quarters against 19thranked Sterling College. Unfortunately for the Threshers, games are 40 minutes long, and the Threshers couldn’t sustain the momentum, falling 64-52 in KCAC play.
While the Bethel College men’s basketball team had its moments, the Threshers couldn’t keep up with Sterling’s hot shooting hand Wednesday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym, falling 75-67. Sterling finished the game 28 of 51 for 54.9 percent, while Bethel was 29 of 70 for 41.4 percent.

GOESSEL — Too many turnovers in clutch time proved detrimental to the Goessel High School girls’ basketball team Tuesday in a 53-43 overtime loss to Canton-Galva in the 16th Goessel Bluebird Classic. Freshman Trinity Espinoza led 1-2 Canton-Galva with 32 points, hitting 11 of 13 free throws.
MAIZE — On a day of rest, the Newton High School boys’ swimming team finished ninth Saturday at the Maize Invitational at the Maize Performing Arts and Aquatics Center. Andover won the meet with 368 points.
