McPHERSON — Bryant Mocaby had the hot hand for the Bethel College men’s basketball team in a 92-78 win over McPherson College Saturday in McPherson. Mocaby hit 10 of 15 from the field, including six of 10 3-pointers, to finish with 26 points.
McPHERSON — The Bethel College women’s basketball team won its second straight game, stopping McPherson College 89-71 Saturday night in McPherson. The game was tied at 22 in the first quarter.
The Newton High School girls’ basketball team missed too many chances to put the game away against Salina South Friday in AV-CTL I play Friday at Ravenscroft Gym, leading to a 36-30 overtime loss. Turnovers in the final minute of regulation allowed South to break a nine-minute scoreless span in the second half and overcome a fourpoint deficit.
PREP GIRLS Heart of America Moundridge 52, Marion 39 MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School girls’ basketball team is 2-0 to start the calendar year, stopping Marion 52-39 Friday to open HOAL play in Moundridge. The Wildcats trailed 14-9 after the first quarter, but led 27-22 at the half and 43-30 after three quarters.
WICHITA — With a mix of a little experience and a lot of youth, the Newton High School bowling teams opened the season Saturday at the Bishop Carroll Invitational at Northrock Lanes in Wichita. The Railer girls finished 27th out of 35 teams.
JENKS, Okla. — The Newton High School boys’ wrestling team took on some of the best of Oklahoma and came away a winner, winning the Larry Wilkey Invitational Friday and Saturday in Jenks.
WICHITA — The Newton High School girls’ wrestling team finished sixth out of 10 teams Saturday at the Wichita North Invitational. Shawnee Heights won the team title at 159.5, followed by Wichita North at 147, Kapaun-Mt.
