Bailey leads Newton boys for second meet
The Newton High School boys’ bowling team showed a measure of improvement Thursday in a dual meet against Salina South at Eastgate Lanes, while the Railer girls are still suffering from growing pains. The South boys stopped Newton 2,4392,023.
Defense in the first half, offense in the fourth quarter pace BC women
The Bethel College women’s basketball team probably played one of its best defensive first halves of the season in conference play and one of its best offensive fourth quarters to upset Friends 73-66 Wednesday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym. Bethel is now 4-1 since the start of the calendar year.

DERBY — The Newton High School boys’ swimming team claimed a pair of state consideration times Tuesday in a sixth-place finish at the Derby Invitational at the Campus High School pool. Derby won the meet with 532 points, followed by Buhler at 519, Campus at 399.5, Great Bend at 220.5 and Hutchinson at 215.
Bethel men get over the rim to get past Friends
The Bethel College men’s basketball team has never been known for playing above the rim, but that changed Wednesday in an 82-66 win over Friends in KCAC play at Thresher Gym. Bethel had four dunks in the game, plus a number of other tip ins.
