Brueggen double-double paces Swather girls
Newton Kansan HILLSBORO — Hesston High School sophomore Kendal Brueggen kept the Swather girls’ basketball team on track in a 40-29 win over Holcomb Saturday in the championship game of the Hillsboro Trojan Classic. Brueggen scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and four steals.
AP source: Chiefs’ Mahomes sustained high ankle sprain
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes sustained a right high ankle sprain in the Kansas City Chiefs’ divisional playoff win over the Jaguars, a person familiar with the nature of the injury told The Associated Press on Sunday, though the All-Pro quarterback expects to play against Cincinnati in next week’s AFC championship game.
Wildcat boys three-peat at Canton-Galva
CANTON — A high-scoring first half and a defensive second half all went to the advantage of the Moundridge Wildcat boys’ basketball team in a 66-55 win over Ell-Saline Friday in the championship game of the Canton-Galva Invitational. It was the third straight title for Moundridge in the tournament.
Proctor no gamble for Hesston in win
HILLSBORO — Jake Proctor put on a show for the Hesston Swathers faithful Saturday night in the finals of the Hillsboro Trojan Classic, scoring 32 points in a 59-36 win over the Remington Broncos. Proctor finished 11 of 17 from the field, including two of three from 3-point range.

DODGE CITY — The Newton High School boys’ basketball team made some progress, but still couldn’t come away with a win at the 80th Dodge City Tournament of Champions Saturday at United Wireless Arena. The Railers fell to host Dodge City 58-56 in triple overtime.
