SALINA — The Newton High School girls’ basketball team was held to 27 percent shooting Tuesday in a 36-31 loss at Salina South in AV-CTL I play. Newton hit just 11 of 41 from the field, while South was 12 of 36.

MAIZE — The Newton High School boys’ swimming team ended the regular season with a seventh-place finish Friday and Saturday at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I Championships in Maize. Derby won the team title with 520 points.
The Newton High School bowling teams held their regular-season home finales Monday afternoon, splitting with Valley Center at Eastgate Lanes. The Railer girls edged Valley Center 1,647-1,627.
