ANDOVER — The Newton High School boys’ wrestling team sent 14 wrestlers to the Class 5A West Regional Friday and Saturday in Andover. When it was over, 12 of those wrestlers finished in the top eight and qualified for the state tournament — three as regional champions.

The Newton High School boys’ basketball team just didn’t have the firepower to answer the sixth-ranked (KBCA, Class 5A) Andover Trojans, falling 70-20 Friday at Ravenscroft Gym. “Give a lot of credit to Andover,” Newton coach Demetric Williams said.

Newton High School football player Ricky Parga was honored at during a recent Newton High School basketball game as a 2023 Kansas Shrine Bowl selection. Parga is a 5-foot-11, 265-pound defensive end and guard.

While the post-season bubble is still pretty thin for the Bethel College men’s basketball team, the Threshers may have just put themselves back in the national conversation with a 79-71 win over 20thranked (NAIA) Southwestern College Wednesday night in KCAC play at Thresher Gym. Bethel improves to 17-9, 15-6 in KCAC play.

The future has begun for the Bethel College women’s basketball team in a 66-46 win Wednesday night against Southwesrtern in KCAC play at Thresher Gym. Bethel snaps an eight-game losing streak and extends the Moundbuilders’ losing streak to nine games.
