HUTCHINSON — A new head coach, an almost entirely new varsity lineup and a strange loss in the season opener all did not foreshadow what was in store for the Hesston Swather boys’ basketball team. Twenty-five wins later and the Swathers sealed their destiny as a dynasty, stopping the Marysville Bulldogs 50-44 Saturday in the Class 3A state finals at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
MANHATTAN — The Vance Unrau era for the Moundridge High School boys’ basketball team ended with its seventh overall state title, sixth under Unrau, after a 66-46 win over the Independent School of Wichita Saturday in the Class 2A finals at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan. Moundridge ends the season 23-3.
Wichita State University has fired head men’s basketball coach Isaac Brown. The move Saturday came less than 24 hours after WSU lost to Tulane in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament in Fort Worth.
