Hershberger goal leads Railers to win
The Newton High School girls’ soccer team took a sledge hammer to the Buhler defense in the season opener Tuesday at Fischer Field, but that defensive wall was never breached until Natalie Hershberger converted a Xaydi Valdivia corner kick in the 79th minute to hand the Railers a 1-0 victory. “I was just standing just outside the 18 (yard penalty area) and Izzy (Sandoval) was like, ‘just rush the keeper,’” Hershberger said.
Railer soccer squad to feature youth
Youth will be served for the Newton High School girls’ soccer team this spring. Out of a 28-player roster, there are just two seniors, eight juniors, 10 sophomores and eight freshmen.
