Different pitching styles, same results for Railer baseball
HUTCHINSON — The Newton High School baseball team used two starting pitchers with contrasting styles to get the same results — a win over Hutchinson Wednesday to open Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson. Newton won 13-3 and 6-3.

HUTCHINSON — The Newton High School softball team had a solid outing and a not-so-solid outing against Hutchinson Thursday in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at the Fun Valley Sports Complex in Hutchinson. Newton won the first game 14-4 and lost the second game 13-3.

Thresher flag football wins LEAVENWORTH — The Bethel College women’s flag football team won its first game in program history, stopping Saint Mary 18-7 Thursday in KCAC play in Leavenworth. Kylah Rome led the Thresher offense, rushing for 89 yards and three touchdowns.
Railer soccer squad stops Ark City
ARKANSAS CITY — The Newton High School girls’ soccer team made it three wins in a row, stopping Arkansas City 9-0 Thursday on the road. Izzy Sandoval scored five goals with an assist to lead the Railers.

Newton hosts invitational Thursday McPHERSON — The Newton High School boys’ golf team finished 10th Thursday at the McPherson Invitational at the Turkey Creek Golf Course. Derby topped the field at 302, 28 strokes ahead of McPherson.
