Strong first half leads Railers past Derby
DERBY — The Newton High School girls’ soccer team awoke a sleeping giant in the second half, but still held on to a 3-2 win over Derby Tuesday night in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at Panther Stadium. The game was slated to be played on grass at the Derby soccer complex, but was moved to the artificial turf field because of the weather.
Sports briefs
The Newton High School baseball and softball games scheduled for Tuesday against Valley Center were postponed until May 9. The baseball games will be played at Klein-Scott Field (JV at Kenny Williams Field).
Railer golf team ninth at Derby Invitational
DERBY — The Newton High School boys’ golf team placed ninth Monday at the Derby Invitational at the Derby Golf and Country Club. Derby won the tournament with a team score of 295.
Railer netters win Campus tourney
Newton finishes 6-0 in doubles play HAYSVILLE — The Newton High School boys’ tennis team swept doubles play en route to winning the Campus Invitational Thursday I Haysville. Newton downed Independence and Andover Central for the team title.
