MAIZE — Still short-handed, the Newton High School girls’ soccer team was unable to put up much resistance against the top team in the Class 5A West Region, falling to Maize South 10-0 Tuesday in AV-CTL I play at the Maize South Field. The game was called in the 52nd minute on the 10goal rule.
HALSTEAD — The Halstead Dragon golf team claimed the title of the Halstead Invitational Tuesday at the Wedgewood Golf Course. The Dragons topped Pratt 359-376 for the team title.
SALINA — The Newton High School boys’ tennis team ended the regular season with a fourth-place finish at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I Championships in Salina. Maize South topped Maize 43-38 for the team title.
HILLSBORO — Two first-place finishes in singles and two second-place finishes in doubles led to a co-championship for the Hesston High School boys’ tennis team Monday in the Central Kansas League Championships at the Hillsboro Sports Complex. Hesston and rival Smoky Valley tied for first with 65 points each.
The Hesston High School golf team placed fourth Tuesday at the nine-team I-135 Cup. The 36-hole tourney had a round at Sand Creek Station and a round at the Hesston Golf Course.
FORT SCOTT — The Hesston College women’s flag football team ended its first regular season with a 25-6 loss to Fort Scott Community College Sunday in Fort Scott. Stats and scoring were not reported.
