HAYSVILLE — The Newton High School baseball team finally got another doubleheader sweep, stopping Campus 14-8 and 8-2 Friday night at Plagens-Carpenter Field in Haysville. Owen Myers led the Railers in the second game with a complete-game, three-hitter.
DERBY — The Newton High School girls’ track team took fourth, while the Railer boys were fifth Friday at the Derby Invitational. Maize South won the girls’ team title with 100 points, followed by Kapaun-Mt.
HAYSVILLE — The Newton High School softball team closed out Ark Valley- Chisholm Trail League Division I play with a pair of losses to Campus Friday at the Twin Lakes Softball Complex. Newton fell 8-2 and 12-2.
SALINA — The Newton High School boys’ tennis team placed third with one state qualifying entry Thursday and Friday at the Class 5A regional tournament in Salina. Maize South won the team title with 16 points, followed by Maize at 15, Newton at nine, Hays at five, Hutchinson at five, Valley Center at five and Salina South at three.
HILLSBORO — The Bethel College men’s track team claimed several nationally-ranked finishes Thursday and Friday at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships. The BC women claimed two conference titles.
