As we continue to battle COVID in Kansas and the local area, we have friends, neighbors and loved ones becoming seriously ill or dying from COVID and COVID Related Conditions. Here we are, two years into this COVID-19 pandemic. It feels like we’ve lived so many lives since March 2020, when cases spread across the United States.
Many communities share the goal of revitalizing their core districts to drive economic success and enhance quality of life. Downtowns are the heart of regional entrepreneurship. They preserve community history, and they represent walkable neighborhoods that are enhanced by a mix of uses necessary to sustain and grow our local economies.
Change equals opportunity. Through the many positive changes that have occurred within the Department for Children and Families since 2019, numerous children and families across Kansas have experienced positive outcomes.
Here we are again to remind you the pandemic is not over … no matter how many of us wish it was. It should go without saying that this pandemic can’t be wished away.
As 2021 draws to a close against the backdrop of the continuing pandemic, it’s hard to imagine a more tumultuous couple of years than what we’ve all just been through. 2021 wasn’t quite the return to “normal” that most of us longed for after 2020, but we have continued to make remarkable progress as a community.
Early in the morning of Dec. 5, former Kansas senator and political icon Bob Dole passed away at age 98. Amidst the outpouring of articles and tributes to Dole that followed, a quote from a resident of Dole’s hometown of Russell, Kansas, stood out: “He was one of a kind — unfortunately.”
