Most people who recognize Karen Robu’s name do so because she has been a fixture in Wichita theater for almost 30 years. But Robu is also a full-time associate minister for Plymouth Congregational Church in Wichita and part-time assistant professor of communication arts and director of theater at Bethel College, who just completed a Doctor of Ministry degree at Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Okla.

Clay Center, Kansas – Jesus was like a celebrity-type figure to many of His day. Crowds gathered in the thousands to hear Him speak and do miracles. This attracted a wide array of people to come follow Him, along with the 12 disciples. One man in particular was a scribe, a highly educated teacher and copier of God’s Word. He randomly shouted out to Jesus in the midst of other people, “I will follow you wherever you go.” (Luke. 9:57) Jesus quickly responded saying, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” (Lk. 9:58)

The death penalty is an antiquated

The death penalty is an antiquated and barbaric method of punishment in any case, regardless of whether the offender is clearly guilty. But in cases in which there is any doubt, the state’s urge to kill is particularly grotesque. Yet the state of Texas is poised to execute a woman who in all likelihood did not commit the crime for which she was sentenced unless radical action is taken before April 27, the day Melissa Lucio is scheduled to die.

Thank you, Newton!

In my first month on the job at Newton High School, I quickly realized that Newton is a special community. As I toured the community and spoke to leaders and organizations, the willingness to support our mission was incredible. Nearly two years later, I have realized that the Newton and USD 373 community truly cares for its own.
