In the garden: Tips on growing herbs

Warmer weather is generally better for producing herbs in the home garden. What is an herb? Herbs are plants that are used as flavoring agents. Mild or savory herbs impart a delicate flavor to foods, while stronger or pungent herbs add zest. Some additional herbs are used for medicinal, aromatic, or ornamental purposes.

Be aware of GOP tax plan

I think middle class Americans need to be made aware of a plan put forward by Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott recently. The plan would raise taxes on 75 million American families, 95% of which make less than $100,000/year. 82% of small business owners who make less than $50,000/year would also see their taxes raised, but there would be nothing to hold corporations accountable, even as they are recording record profits. And when President Biden advises raising taxes on the ultra wealthy, there is an outcry from Republicans who admonish Democrats for being big spenders. I fail to understand the appeal to cutting taxes on the wealthy while raising them on the less fortunate. If it is has to do with trickle down economics, that has proven a failed policy repeatedly since Ronald Reagan first launched the idea 40 years ago.

Rethinking “The Common Defense”

It is good at times to conduct a reality check on what this country supposedly stands for, and what it actually does. The preamble to the US Constitution, in 1787, reads as follows: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
