Martha Krueger, 93, died May 6, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on July 11, 1928, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of John and Cecelia (Newbold) Stamm.

LEONARD STEIDER

Leonard Steider was born to Lee and Emma Steider on Valentine’s Day of 1938 at home on the family farm in Nebraska. He reached his journey’s end on this earth on May 8, 2022 and God called him on to a greater life.

LOREN WILSON MCMURRAY

MCMURRAY, LOREN WILSON. Died peacefully on April 27, 2022, at age 91 in Mesa, AZ. Survived by Helen, his wife of 68 years; children Emily (George) Simon, Lisa (Steven) Northey, and Jeffrey (Nancy); granddaughters Mallory and Lauren McMurray; and nephew Greg Warner. Predeceased by parents Glen Wilson and Zella Jane McMurray and sister Mary Lou Warner. Loren was a graduate of Newton (Kansas) High School and Kansas State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force (Korea) before beginning his career in real estate at Phillips Petroleum Company. He went on to work for Ford Land Development in Dearborn, Michigan, for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1995. An avid golfer, he worked after retirement as a starter at the Foothills Golf Club in Phoenix and at the Cattails Golf Club in South Lyon, Michigan. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, MI.

Arylis Hope (Nikkel) Goertzen

Arylis Hope (Nikkel) Goertzen, 71 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice Friday morning, April 29, 2022. She was born on August 27, 1950 in Goessel, KS to Theodore & Helen (Schmidt) Nikkel. Arylis graduated from Goessel High School, Bryan Nursing College, and received a BSN degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University. On October 18, 1969 she and Dick Goertzen were united in marriage. She had been employed at the Beatrice Community Hospital as a Registered Nurse and in Recovery Department. Arylis was an active member of the Beatrice Mennonite Church and had taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, helped with Vacation Bible School, and was on the Hospitality Committee. She loved her children and grandchildren so much. Arylis had a servant heart until the end of life.

Keith Sprunger

Keith Sprunger, 87, of North Newton, Kansas, died on April 24, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, following a winter of declining physical health. Keith LaVerne Sprunger was born March 16, 1935, in Berne, Indiana, to Arley and Lillian (Mettler) Sprunger.

Donald William Gibbens

Our Loving father, Donald “Don” William Gibbens of Newton, passed away April 20, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 72. He was born in Newton, Kansas on July 30, 1949 to William Earl Gibbens and Lillie Adger Franklin. Don was the 3rd generation of the Gibbens family to be born in Newton. He was the youngest of two children, his parents were also guardians of his Uncle Butch (David) so they grew up like brothers. He spent his childhood working on cars with his dad, especially Mopars!! Don grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1968. Don married Carol Eda Auernheimer in Hesston, Kansas March 25, 1972. Don and Carol were blessed with three sons, Scot, Jason and Allan. They would later divorce. Throughout his working career he held several positions working at Koehn and Associates as a mechanic and maintenance man, a school bus driver for USD 373 and worked at The Newton, Kansan part time. In the 1990’s he was the supervisor of the Railroad Taxi Service for Santa Fe Railroad, (now BNSF), at the Newton Rail Yard. He also did Janitorial work at Hesston Middle School and later worked for Kaye Electric before retiring in 2012.
