PEABODY — The Kansas Department of Commerce made a deal with officials in Peabody to allow completion of a $1.5 million infrastructure improvement project designed to spark economic renewal in the central Kansas town.
A bridge replacement project is scheduled to begin March 14 on North Emma Creek Road between West First Street and Northwest 12th Street. That is west of Newton and northeast of Halstead.
A plan to extend a portion of the Sand Creek bike path may take the next step on March 11 during the city commission meeting, when the commission will be asked to consider sending requests for proposals for design of the project.
The Newton USD 373 Board of Education received a bit of a fund-raising update on a project to renovate Themian Park in downtown before pushing back a vote to ratify an agreement for the project March 10.
Although Newton USD 373 students do not have school on Friday, March 14 as staff observe a workday, there will be action in the buildings.
