Our Lady hosts Lent

Our Lady of Guadalupe hosted a meatless supper for Lent March 25, part of a series of dinners the church will host for the season. The church will host meatless suppers for Lent from 4 to 7 p.m.

Skinner named finalist Brian Skinner, an interrelated special education and English teacher at Newton Senior High School, Newton USD 373, and Mallory Keefe, a preschool teacher at Cheney Elementary School, Cheney Unified School District 268, were named Region 4 finalists for the 2023 Kansas Teacher of the Year award during a virtual ceremony March 26. The award recognizes excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state.

Unemployment dips at state level

The unemployment rate for the state of Kansas dropped in the latest report issued by the Kansas Department of Labor - both from month-to-month and year-over-year. Preliminary estimates reported March 26 by the Labor Market Information Services division of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 2.5% in February.
