The annual Student Art Exhibit at Bethel College is now open, featuring the work of 52 students in a variety of media. The show’s reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Kansas GOP senator demands immediate removal of ‘Gender Queer’ book
TOPEKA — Republican Sen. Rick Kloos added his voice to a national movement to ban books from public school libraries by demanding immediate removal from Shawnee Heights High School of the autobiography “Gender Queer” because he contends it wasn’t suitable for teenagers.
Kansas lands a $650 million plant to make vaccines and fight biological threats
MANHATTAN — Kansas officials announced an agreement Monday to build a $650 million biological manufacturing plant near Manhattan that will create 500 jobs. The facility in Pottawatomie County will develop vaccines to help combat biological threats In addition, it will provide other manufacturing and testing services.
Attorney general to seek prompt approval of legislative district maps
TOPEKA — Attorney General Derek Schmidt plans to promptly submit redrawn House and Senate district maps for review by the Kansas Supreme Court and recommend the justices affirm constitutionality of the new boundaries.
Weekday Bible School hosts recognition
Northridge Elementary Sshool Students enrolled in the Newton Weekday Bible School program were recognized during a program at St Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2001 Windsor Drive, April 19. About 50 students from the elementary school attend the Weekday Bible School program.

Over the Rhine will perform on the Prairie Window Concert Series stage at 4 p.m. April 24 the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains. The concert will take place in the Prairie Pavilion at the Arboretum overlooking the lake.
County to consider hunting lodge approval
F5 Outfitters has been operated by Cole and Rachel McKinney for several years, but this year the company was brought to the attention of the Harvey County Planning and Zoning Board. A building on the family farm was converted to a hunting lodge – a private, three bedroom and two bathroom lodge that is fully furnished and equipped with TV and wi-fi access.

Friday Harvey County Clerk Rick Piepho went over to the mapping office, asking for a fine-tuned map of statelegislative districts - the graphical representations he has seen of new district lines were just not quite fine enough.
