Pool set to open May 31

Despite a staffing challenge that lingered into the month of May, the Newton Municipal Pool, operated by the Newton Recreation Commission, is ready to open for the first full summer following a renovation project.

Health Ministries growing

What looks like a big blue bus has been out and about in the area - found in Goessel, Peabody, the county lakes, the local homeless shelter, a domestic violence shelter and New Jerusalem Missions. It’s called the Health Minstiries Clinic MMU - a medical clinic on wheels.

City seeks nominations for Yard of the Year The city of Newton is seeking nominations for “Yard of the Year.” Nominate your favorite yards at www.newtonkansas.com/yard, at City Hall utility billing office or the Newton Public Library through June 10. Nominated yards will be judged based on appearance, creativity and overall condition, with extra points given for landscapes that require less water.

Click It or Ticket campaign returns

Police and Sheriff’s departments statewide are cracking down on seat belt violations through May 30, part of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign. The Kansas Department of Transportation partners with law enforcement statewide to crack down on seat belt use, the campaign raises awareness of the importance of everyone buckling up in a vehicle.
