Primary ballot recount could hit Harvey County

Harvey County Clerk Rick Piepho began to ready for a hand recount of primary election ballots - notified Aug. 12 that a pair of recounts is possible. “We were one of 55 counties selected for state treasurer, and of course, we are one of 105 counties selected for the constitutional amendment,” Piepho said. He started preparation on Saturday, as per state statute. He now awaits official notification from the Secretary of State’s Office to officially begin a hand recount of each race. A recount of the Republican State Treasurer means a hand recount of 6,457 ballots in Harvey County. A recount of the constitutional amendment question about abortion would mean a hand recount of 12,425 ballots in Harvey County.
