Like past covid waves, this one will leave a lingering imprint in the form of long covid, an ill-defined catchall term for a set of symptoms that can include debilitating fatigue, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and brain fog.

Elementary schools in Newton USD 373 now begin their days with a 30-minute “soft start,” a short period for community building and checking in with students. “Instead of doing content right away we are doing check-ins, like ‘how do you feel, are you happy, are you sad, are you feeling anxious, are you angry?’ So teachers have time to check-in with students,” said Northridge principal Megan Nagel.
